FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How strong is RockStep?
RockStep is reinforced concrete with polymer additives.

Can RockStep get chipped? Is there a repair kit available?
The color runs through a ¾ inch thick layer. A "repair kit" is available, but because of the hardness of RockStep, there will be limited need for repairs in rare circumstances.

Can RockStep develop cracks over time?
The special reinforced, polymer-added mix design makes RockStep products extremely durable, and crack-resistant.

Can you color RockStep with concrete stains? What kind of stains can be used?
Yes, virtually any type of concrete stain can be used to color the product - be sure to follow manufacturer's directions when applying these stains.

Can unsealed RockStep absorb stains from mud, spills, etc?
Organic materials (leaves, rotten wood, wine, etc) & salts could leave temporary stains - but would be washed away over time (by rain, etc). Inorganic materials (paints, rust, fine red powdery colors in clays & sands), and non-soluble minerals could cause staining to RockStep, as well as other concrete surfaces, and many stone surfaces. In these cases, pre-sealing is recommended with a breathable sealer (Siloxane sealers by Prosoco, etc). Follow manufacturer's instructions when applying. Sealers will also make it easier to clean RockStep surfaces.

What kinds of cleaners can be used with RockStep?
RockStep surfaces can be cleaned with granular detergents added to water, or with "stone veneer cleaners" (Prosoco's Manufactured Stone Veneer Cleaner, etc). Never use muriatic acid cleaners, or any highly concentrated acidic cleaners.

How much time can be saved using RockStep? What is approximate savings from not needing equipment for the job?
Contractors have indicated that as much as 20% to 25% of the natural stone material that they order ends up as waste on a project. In addition, they have also said that about 25% of a field design professional's time is used for "on the job" layout. Also, since there is no need for heavy equipment, this can save up to $1600 per day as delivery charges could be eliminated, it also eliminates up to $500 to $600 in lawn repair after the steps are set in place.
